The Caption Should Read Why Cant You Recognise These People

Every day the media is putting out footage of crimes asking for help to identify people.

Often the CCTV installer has no idea themselves that they are producing poor quality results that are useless.

You would think that there might be some understanding as to what we need from a surveillance camera to actually be of some use. I’m not blaming the media or the police for this low quality CCTV footage. Not even the client who paid for it in good faith. It is the installation companies who put it in not advising the client of what they need.
From what gets published, we do not know what other cameras exist so there may be other camera angles but based on what we get to see as the public, the results are not good enough and the industry needs to lift its game!

Often the [intlink id=”494″ type=”post”]CCTV installer[/intlink] has no idea themselves that they are producing poor quality results that are useless. Take the still image above (0:50 seconds). It may be slightly out of focus at night but the picture is actually quite good as far as resolution. However it will never produce anything of use unless you are looking at traffic flow management and I am sure that was not the clients intent. My guess is the clients said they wanted to see every car that comes and goes, with the intent of using it as evidence. Not to manage the traffic.

imageThen additional cameras covering the other entry points combined with an overview. This would get the face ID, the number plates (light dependant) and the general activity overview.

imageLooking at the next clip segment, this is actually good footage. (1min27sec)

The person occupies over 100% of the screen height, which meets the AS4806 standards for 1ICU. Unfortunately we cannot control the covering of the face.thumbs-up
