I’ve got to say it has been a crap day for me today. You know when you have a schedule to stick to and you are several hundred kilometres away from the office, something just has to go wrong.
For me it started yesterday. Leaving home at 8am to drive to a site some 5 hours away, I got to site at 1pm and installed the additional hardware and minor cabling changes then moved to the programming changes. That’s where it turned bad.
It was about 3pm when I was ready to do the programming changes which should take about 40 minutes. Got the laptop setup and direct connected to the system via RS232 (yes there is still equipment supporting that despite the fact you can’t get a laptop with a serial port and need a USB dongle) but could not get access to the programming. After multiple attempts I had to give up as the client wanted to go home at 5.30pm.
Next day I was able to connect no problems but after making the changes and uploading them to the system, things started going crazy. Well eventually I tamed the savage beast and left the site at 3pm. Not bad for a 4 hour job.
So now I am a day behind schedule and booked into my classy accommodation.
Check it out! For $40 a night I get… well not much.
A room 2 metres wide by 3 metres long, with a bed, sink and a cupboard. No toilet or bathroom and no TV or internet. (Thank God for mobile internet connections). I guess I had better make the most of it as I have a lot of catching up to do tomorrow.
We al have one of those days every now and then. Tell me about yours…
Oh dear! The room does not seem so bad! (But basic!)
